The Anglo-Zanzibar War happened on 27 August 1896 between the United Kingdom and the Zanzibar.

What happened? 🤔

The Sultan of Zanzibar died, and a new ruler Khalid bin Barghash took power without British approval.

The British supported another leader, Hamud bin Mohammed, and gave Khalid an ultimatum to step down.

But Khalid refused…

Then the war started 💥

At 9:02 AM, British warships started bombarding the palace.

Zanzibar's army tried to fight back, but they were no match for the British navy.

By 9:40 AM, the palace was destroyed and the flag was lowered.

This makes the Anglo-Zanzibar War the shortest war in human history.
